Michigan Forgery Statutes
MCLA 750.248: Forgery of Public Records
Falsely making, altering, or counterfeiting deeds, wills, insurance policies, or public attestations with intent to defraud.
Penalty: Felony punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
MCLA 750.249: Uttering and Publishing
Presenting a forged or altered document as true, knowing it to be false, with the intent to injure or defraud.
Penalty: Felony punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
MCLA 750.260: Counterfeiting Coins
Counterfeiting gold or silver coins or possessing 5 or more counterfeit coins with intent to pass them. This is a severe felony punishable by up to life in prison.
Financial Transaction Devices & Tools
Michigan law also strictly prohibits the forgery of financial transaction devices (credit/debit cards) and the possession of tools designed for counterfeiting. Under MCLA 750.255, possessing plates, blocks, or paper designed for making counterfeit notes is a felony punishable by up to 10 years.
