Michigan Robbery & Carjacking Laws

MCLA 750.529: Armed Robbery

Engaging in robbery while possessing a dangerous weapon (or an article fashioned to look like one) is a felony punishable by Life or any term of years. If serious injury is inflicted, a 2-year mandatory minimum applies.

MCLA 750.529a: Carjacking

Using force, violence, or fear to steal a motor vehicle is a felony punishable by Life or any term of years. Sentences for carjacking may be imposed consecutively to other related convictions.

Unarmed & Bank Robbery

Unarmed Robbery (750.530): Using force or fear without a weapon is a 15-year felony. Bank/Vault Robbery (750.531): Attempting to steal from a depository by intimidation or injury is a felony punishable by Life.

Strategic Defense Against Violent Crime Charges

The prosecution must prove that force or fear was used "in the course of committing a larceny." Our defense strategy often involves challenging witness identification, analyzing surveillance footage, and investigating whether the alleged "dangerous weapon" meets statutory requirements. We aim to reduce charges or seek a full acquittal whenever possible.
